A search engine-optimized meta description contains your target keyword and communicates the value that the page will give to the people who read it. Google cuts off meta descriptions at 160 characters. Although meta descriptions are not a ranking factor according to Google, they’re crucial to convincing searchers that your page is worth clicking through to.
